The European Centre in collaboration with Terre des Hommes is implementing the project “Assistance on facing violent extremism and religious radicalization at a local level” funded by European Union. The Centre has developed 3 regional forums in the cities of Tirana, Elbasan and Pogradec respectively on 16th, 18th and 19th of October. The aim of this project was to inform and raise public awareness on the consequences of violent extremism and promote civic participation in preventing and exposing violent extremism and religious radicalization. There was a diverse participation in the forum, with representatives from state institutions, participants from civil society organizations with similar objectives, but also pedagogues, students and other people who had previously expressed their interest in participating. During the meeting, the experts together with the participants discussed the concrete policies that the states could have taken to prevent these phenomena in local and global level and also consulted alternative solutions that similar projects had managed to conclude after taking the citizens’ feedback. All the participants gave their opinion about the situation in our county and what should we do in the future to rule out this alarming phenomenality.
