On 5 December, at the Court of the Appeals of Tirana, was held the Semi-Final of the competition: “ECtHR Moot Court – Albania II”. This activity was organized by the European Centre and the Civil Rights Defenders Albania and was planned in three sessions with 6 participating universities that made it to this phase from the selection of the written arguments. The panel of judges for the Semi-Final was composed by Mr.Armand Skapi – Director of the Department of the International Treaties and the International Law at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mrs.Vjollca Meçaj – Executive Director of the Helsinki Committee in Albania and Mrs.Lorena Goxhobelli- Advisor of the deputy prime minister. As the competition took place, the sessions were divided as follows:

Session II – SHKOLLA E LARTË HËNA E PLOTË – BEDËR, representatives of the Applicant vs. SH.L.U.J “UNIVERSITETI MARIN BARLETI”, representatives of the State;

Each team had the opportunity to represent the arguments of the party they choose by chance one day before the event at the opening ceremony at Hotel Doro City. The aim of the project and the event is to simulate a similar process with that of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, where a specific state is held responsible for violations of human rights. The importance of the project rests on the basis of providing students with the right skills to present before a panel of judges and to behave according to the ethics of the court. Despite the skills they gain, the students gain valuable knowledge for the European Convention of Human Rights, European Court of Human Rights, its jurisprudence and standards, a necessary information for the future judges, prosecutors and lawyers.

After all the teams had faced each other, the panel of judges evaluated every performance and approved as the winning teams the University of New York Tirana and the University Marin Barleti, which will compete against each other on 19 December at the Constitutional Court of Albania. The finalist team will represent Albania at the Regional Moot Court.
