The European Center in collaboration with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung has implemented the project “Fundamental Rights First: Protection against Discrimination”. Having in mind one of the five criterias set out in the EC Progress Report for Albania, it includes “Protection of Human Rights”, where the foreseen rights are also the protection against discrimination. In our country, protection from discrimination is a fundamental right guaranteed by the Constitution, by the ratified International Conventions and other laws. But, apart from the domestic and international legal framework, it still remains a challenge the implementation in practice.
For this, the European Center and KAS provided for the implementation of this two-phase project, respectively: drafting a manual on “Prohibition and Protection from Discrimination in Albania” for law students, administration employees, lawyers and any other interested citizens; as well as the training of law students in cooperation with the University of Durres, Shkodra and Vlora for the further improvement of knowledge on this subject and the practical implementation of domestic and international legislation in guaranteeing protection against discrimination for every individual or group of society. Within this framework, the Centre has collaborated with several universities in the country. On May 27, we have been at “Aleksandër Moisiu” University of Durrës and on May 31 at “Luigj Gurakuqi” University of Shkodra
