Albania, 20 October 2021 – The first Train-the-Trainers on human rights of foreign prisoners took place in Albania. The Training of Trainers workshop, led via Zoom by Prof. Dr. Arta Mandro, a Human Right Expert, Lecturer at School of Magistrate in Albania and Former CPT Member, who addressed essential legal grounds and the adequate reasonable steps that should be taken by the authorities to guarantee effective administration for appropriate treatment of foreign prisoner’s human rights. Participants have been actively involved through discussion panels and Q&A sessions with the expert and the moderators.
During this meeting were present even important personalities, such as Ms. Erinda Ballanca – Albanian Ombudsman, Ms. Helena Papa – CPT Member and Mr. Femi Sufaj – Deputy Director of the General Prison Directory, Albania, who held a short welcome speech and shared their experience and spoke on their position about this relevant issue. In the meeting attended forty-six (46) participants of different backgrounds such as prison managers, prison administrative staff, prison civilian staff, forensic psychologists, social assistants, educators, social workers, cultural mediators, interpreters, etc.), prison officers, all those responsible for working with Foreign Nationals in prison, professors of different universities in Albania, researchers, students, Albanian Ombudsman members, representatives from the Commissioner for Protection from Discrimination, lawyers and interested persons from a different institution in Albania.
