SUCCESSFUL CONCLUSION OF THE COMPETITION “MOOT COURT ECHR – ALBANIA II
On 19 December at the Constitutional Court of Albania, was held the Final phase of the “Moot Court ECHR– Albania II”. This activity is brought for the second year in row by the European Centre and the Civil Rights Defenders. The final was a continuation of the previous two phases which consisted on the written arguments of 11 universities, where only 6 of them were selected to make it through the Semi-Final, where by choice 3 universities were chosen to represent the State and three others to represent the Applicant. The competing teams at the Semi-Final were: the University of Vlora “Ismail Qemali”, University of Shkodra “Luigj Gurakuqi”, University “Hëna e Plotë Bedër”, SH.L.U.J “Marin Barleti”, University of New York Tirana and the European University of Tirana.
The panel of judges for the Semi-Final was composed by Mr.Armand Skapi, Mrs.Vjollca Meçaj, and Mrs.Lorena Goxhobelli.
The winning team with the highest points from the Representatives of the Applicant was University of New York Tirana, and the one from the Representatives of the State was SH.L.U.J “Marin Barleti”
The Final phase was an unforgettable experience for the students in terms of professional and academic gains, as well as practical skills to present before a highly qualified panel of judges. The panel of judges was composed by:

Mr.Ledi BIANKU – judge representing Albania at ECtHR (member)
Mr. Bashkim DEDJA – Chair of the Constitutional Court of Albania (member)
Mr.Xhezair ZAGANJORI – Chair of the High Court of Albania (member)
Mrs. Vjollca MECAJ – ex judge of the Constitutional Court of Albania and expert of the constitutional law (member)
Mr. Armand SKAPI – Chair of the Department of the International Law and Treaties at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (member)
Mrs. Aurela Anastas – specialist and academic of the constitutional law (member).
The Final phase was successfully concluded with the team of the University of New York representing the Applicant and composed by the following students:

Both teams elaborated their arguments and presented their oral pleadings. Then the panel of Judges reiterated to value each performance and to decide upon the winners of the competition “ECtHR Moot Court – Albania II”. The Court announced that the winning team of this year’s competition is University of New York Tirana. This team will represent Albania at the regional competition that will be organized by Civil rights Defenders in Croatia.
